The 100th Homecoming for the Blackhawks was a success as they earned a big win against the Clinton Prairie Gophers. The Gophers were undefeated heading into last Saturday’s matchup and one of the better teams in the Hoosier Heartland Conference.
Early in the game, Sheridan struck first with Zach Bales scoring on a 15-yard run. Shortly after, the Gophers scored as well, putting the score at 7-6, with the Hawks in the lead. Early in the 2nd Quarter, Trent Decraene received a 9-yard pass from Owen Bell, adding 6 more to the board. The Hawks added two more TDs in the 2nd Quarter off of Gopher fumbles, placing the score at 24-12 at the end of the 1st Half. The 3rd Quarter was pretty quiet for the Hawks, the lone score being an 8-yard pass from Bell to Joe Franco. However, the 3rd Quarter proved the best for the Gophers, scoring 14 points. In the 4th Quarter, Eli Kolb scored on a 46-yard run, putting the score at 37-26. Shortly after, the Gophers scored again and converted a successful two-point conversion, which made the score 37-34, with only minutes left. The Hawks were able to gather the Onside kick, and Kolb scored once more with less than a minute left. The Blackhawk defense once again forced a Gopher fumble and recovery, ending the game with the final score being 34-44.
Coming off a loss, the Taylor Titans look to bring their record to 2-4 this week. The Titans' lead receiver, Jalyn Wooten averages 19.7 yards a game. Their lead rusher averages 88.2 yards a game.
